The
amazing singing sensation, “The Everly Brothers” , took the music scene by
storm with their unique and beautiful harmony style! Don and Phil had
been singing together since childhood. Their father, Ike, was a talented
musician in his own right and had the boys performing on the family’s
live radio show, “The Everly Family Show”, at a very young age. In 1955,
Don and Phil were living in Nashville and their biggest fan was the infamous
guitar player, Chet Atkins. By 1957, their distinctive sound made their first
record “ Bye Bye Love” a huge hit! It was penned by the song writing duo,
Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. It was the perfect pop/country crossover song that
over 30 other artists including Elvis Presley had turned down and it was a
million seller! The 1950’s/60’s were a perfect time for the Everly
Brothers' good looks, songs of innocent devotion and wonderful voices to
win over the hearts of teenagers everywhere .....stardom was
inevitable........the rest is musical history!
After parting
company in 1973, the Everly Brothers reunited in 1983 at Royal Albert Hall in
London for a reunion concert. Sir Paul McCartney wrote the song “Wings of a
Nightingale” specifically for that performance.
With
their timeless, eternal music, The Everly Brothers are still touring
today......
To
quote Don Everly - “ Phil and I always sang....that’s what we do.....Our father
raised us to do this...”
And the
Evans Sisters can relate completely!
